I have exactly the same problem on my ASUS EeePC 1201T running Xubuntu
14.04 32 bit, screen locking disabled. As a crude workaround going to
the console fixes the problem (so e.g. CTRL+ALT+F1; CTRL+ALT+F7 and the
mouse cursor is visible again)
