For the live boot medium I used a USB flash drive with the version of Ubuntu 14.04 as it was originally released in April 2014.
First Test: I booted the computer without making any modifications. It booted into the live version of 14.04. The boot process successfully made it to displaying the desktop, however, the computer was very sluggish. A lot of gray screens. CPU usage, using the system monitor, did not seem do disclose any issues. But then I am not a techie. Second Test: As the live USB flash booted, I intervened to access the boot options. I selected "nomodeset" (F6) and for the "Try Ubuntu", added the text "radeon.audio =0". The computer once again booted successfully, but in this case the graphic display was in a low resolution mode (800x600???) with the graphic card identified as: "VESA: R-00". The computer was still sluggish, but in this case CPU usages, as identified by the system monitor, was quite erratic. Compiz varied between 0% and 20%. When I toggled the system monitor between "processes" and "resources" the CPU usage varied from near zero up to 50%. System memory seemed OK: 21% of 3.9Gbytes total available memory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312954 Title: Installation of Ubuntu 14.04 Failed on an Ahthon 64 Dual Core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1312954/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
