Public bug reported:
As user @mushtaque pointed out in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/phpmyadmin/+bug/456674 the
issue of the script failing if user 'root'@'localhost' fails to log in
WITHOUT ANY feedback (see attached log), but he*she didn't open a new
bug (at least I didn't find one). The failing post-installation script
should handle this error and print a useful information of stdout (e.g.
"login with user 'root'@'localhost' failed, please make sure you're
MySQL server is configured correctly).
If the error isn't related to MySQL server (login or other issues)
provide a useful output nevertheless, please :)
I exprienced this with phpmyadmin 4:4.0.10-1, apt 1.0.1ubuntu2 and dpkg
1.17.5 on Ubuntu 14.04.
** Affects: phpmyadmin (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
** Attachment added: "output of `sudo apt-get purge phpmyadmin && sudo apt-get
install phpmyadmin` where the error occurs"
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324072/+attachment/4121346/+files/phpmyadmin_dpkg_post_installation_script_error.log
