This should still be reopened as it occurs for me on a Chillblast Defiant (Haswell/Optimus Architecture, Core i7 Processor and nVidia GTX 765M graphics) with Mint 17 running kernel 3.13.0-24 and I have also tried the ubuntu mainline 3.14.4 kernel. In both cases HDMI sound is about 20% fast whilst switching to normal audio output immediately slows it down. Switching graphics processor makes no difference. Kernel 3.10.33 works fine as did 3.8.0 in Mint 15. We definitely have a regression here somewhere between 3.10.33 and 3.13.0
