i did some additional testing, so here we go.

flash-nonfree:
xorg needs 60-65% cpu, firefox 25%.

swfdec:
xorg needs 70-75% cpu, firefox 15-20%.

gnash:
doesent do anything after installation. i visited some sites that use flash 
content, but gnash wouldnt do anything with it... so no results.

with totem, there is no problem at all. watching a movie trailer on apple.com 
gives 
10 -15% cpu for totem plugin, 7-10% for xorg.

i measured this with 'top'. if theres a better way to do this, please let me 
know, i'm glad to help any further!
