I am experiencing an almost identical problem with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64
bit with preferred system language English (United States),  regional
format German and keyboard layout German.

When using the auto type feature instead of the @ character the ⅛
character is printed. When using the feature to copy the user name or
password to the clipboard everything is fine.

KeepassX worked fine for me in 12.04 LTS. The problem occured after
installation (not upgrade) of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I found other people with the same problem and also proposed solutions
but I would prefer an Ubuntu-intrinsic fix.
