So for akete there is a kernel-side add event for sdb1, but no
corresponding udev event. And no "change" events at all.

I have no idea why based on the current data (this generally works), so
more questions for akete:

 * Is this problem specific to this USB hard drive (WD Elements), i. e.
do other things like USB sticks, SD cards etc. work?

 * Is this problem specific to your desktop/laptop, i. e. does the
device work on other systems?

 * Please disconnect the device, run "sudo udevadm control --log-
priority=debug", and re-connect. After about 10 seconds, please attach
/var/log/syslog here. This might have an error message that points out
what's going on and wrong.
