Thank Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) for following up this bug report. I can confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu.
I used the image: utopic-desktop-i386.iso 22-May-2014 07:50 1.0G Desktop image for PC (Intel x86) computers (standard download) And I tested 3 different scenarios: 1.- Booting in EFI Mode. The computer freezes. I got a black screen for more than 10 minutes. And I needed to turn off the PC. 2.- Changing in the BIOS the OS to "Windows 7/Other OS" (NO EFI) I got a Kernel panic (I’m writing the lines I could copy): [ 29.597738] AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out [ 29.637548] Kernel panic - not syncing: timer doesn't work through Interrupt remapped IO-APIC [ 29.637588] CPU : 0 PID : 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.13.0-24-generic #47 ubuntu [ 29.637627] Hardware name : MEDION MS-7857/MS-7857 , BIO M7857W08.203 01/06/2014 3.- Keeping the BIOS set to "Windows 7/Other OS" and adding noapic to the ubuntu boot line. The computer didn't panic but again I got a black screen after seeing many times the lines: AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out AMD-Vi : Completion-Wait loop timed out I waited here 20 minutes. And I had to turn off again the computer to reboot, nothing else worked. The worse now is that I can't even take logs as the kernel doesn't boot. Please let me know what other information you need.
