I was having a similar problem with my Epson Perfection V33 flatbed and
Xsane. The Xsane community (Mark Buda) pointed out that there is a
problem with Linux handling XHCI mode. I went into my BIOS and disabled
XHCI mode and now my scanner is working normally. I forgot to point out
that my problem emerged when I purchased a new desktop machine withthe
latest Gigabyte motherboard.
