Lenovo T440s with Ultra Pro dock, 3.13.0-29-generic, x86_64, Hauppauge
WinTV 950Q

I can confirm both cases

1. sudo lsusb -v craps out like so
    Bus 002 Device 008: ID 2040:7200 Hauppauge
    lsusb: gconv.c:74: __gconv: Assertion `outbuf != ((void *)0) && *outbuf !=
((void *)0)' failed.

2. Accessing the device (open capture device in vlc) blows away all usb
    vlc v4l2:///dev/video1 :v4l2-standard= :input-slave=alsa://hw:1,0
:v4l2-audio-input=2

Syslog: (not sure if that first line is part of the issue or not; it appears
after running vlc command, but vlc itself pauses for a few seconds and then
craps out at which point the remaining syslog entries appear).
