Sorry about the tone, now that I re-read it it does indeed sound a bit
rude.

Regarding the issue, so my bad, caching is indeed done. It hadn't
occurred to me to look at the settings. Increasing the cache size fixed
all the issues described here, so I guess the bug report can be closed
as invalid.

Perhaps the default value of 32MB is too small, though? Or... What about
(this is a genuine question/suggestion, not a sarchastic "what about")
an "automatic" option that would increase cache size (never beyound a
maximum) when too-frequent cache misses are detected? (and this option
could be the default)?
