OK, someone said to install ltdl-dev, which then let the configure, make
and make install work fine. When I plug my camera in, it still doesn't
show. I checked and the rule is not in /lib/udev/rules.d - I thought
the package was supposed to install it. Do I need to go back and
manually add the udev rule (using "==" instead of "="?) ??

Sorry to be a hassle, but this is one time I desperately need my camera
to work today - it's very important (just saying - I know that makes no
difference) - and the only PC I have access to is this one running
xubuntu.

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!
