The problem still remains active.

After 2014-05-25 I switched to proprietary nvidia 331.38 for my GT218
[GeForce 210] graphics card and did not experience any more machine
freezes and display hickups.

Just yesterday I switched back to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and
experienced the screen and machine freeze just now - relevant output

else may have experienced the same issue and can provide any more
