The problem still remains active. After 2014-05-25 I switched to proprietary nvidia 331.38 for my GT218 [GeForce 210] graphics card and did not experience any more machine freezes and display hickups.
Just yesterday I switched back to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and experienced the screen and machine freeze just now - relevant output from dmesg is: [ 3582.254023] nouveau E[ DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon [ 3602.493023] nouveau E[Xorg[1517]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0001 [Xorg[1517]] [ 3617.492787] nouveau E[Xorg[1517]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0001 [Xorg[1517]] [ 3619.492996] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] channel 4 [Xorg[1517]] unload timeout [ 3634.492577] nouveau E[Xorg[1517]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [Xorg[1517]] [ 3649.492448] nouveau E[Xorg[1517]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [Xorg[1517]] [ 3651.492720] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] channel 3 [Xorg[1517]] unload timeout [ 3651.677061] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3651.681506] ecryptfs_decrypt_page: Error attempting to read lower page; rc = [-4] [ 3651.681536] ecryptfs_readpage: Error decrypting page; rc = [-4] [ 3651.681750] ecryptfs_decrypt_page: Error attempting to read lower page; rc = [-4] [ 3651.681777] ecryptfs_readpage: Error decrypting page; rc = [-4] [ 3651.777171] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3651.877336] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3651.977441] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.077525] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.177628] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.277730] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.377836] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.477940] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3652.578041] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3656.682168] yama_ptrace_access_check: 40 callbacks suppressed [ 3656.682172] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3656.782259] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3656.882327] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3656.982418] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.082503] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.182585] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.282670] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.382755] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.482839] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3657.582922] ptrace of pid 9389 was attempted by: opera (pid 10556) [ 3666.636128] nouveau E[compiz[3492]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [compiz[3492]] [ 3681.635975] nouveau E[compiz[3492]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [compiz[3492]] [ 3683.636293] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] channel 5 [compiz[3492]] unload timeout [ 3698.639863] nouveau E[totem[8400]] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [totem[8400]] I'm going to attach all relevant Xorg-logs again hoping that someone else may have experienced the same issue and can provide any more information. ** Summary changed: - Screen freezes due to Xorg crashed SIGABRT and noveau error + Screen freezes due to Xorg crashed SIGABRT and nouveau error -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314405 Title: Screen freezes due to Xorg crashed SIGABRT and nouveau error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1314405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
