The Gnome Keyboard Indicator displays _country_code_ for selected
keyboard, but not its ISO language code. This is confusing in a country
with several languages, for instance in india. When one wants to have
hindi, bengoli, tamil and malayalam keyboards, the indicator only
displays Ind*. And if one lives in Swizerland, it displays Che* when
Swiss-french of Swiss-german keyboard layout is selected.

It should display the 3-letter ISO language code, hin, ben, tam, mal,
gem, fre..  And if some variant of these are used, only then the
asterisk should be used. For instance, should one want to use hindi
phonetic (IPA) variant, the indicator should display hin*. And in case
of swiss-french layout, it should be fre*, rather than Che*
