The Gnome Keyboard Indicator displays _country_code_ for selected keyboard, but not its ISO language code. This is confusing in a country with several languages, for instance in india. When one wants to have hindi, bengoli, tamil and malayalam keyboards, the indicator only displays Ind*. And if one lives in Swizerland, it displays Che* when Swiss-french of Swiss-german keyboard layout is selected.
It should display the 3-letter ISO language code, hin, ben, tam, mal, gem, fre.. And if some variant of these are used, only then the asterisk should be used. For instance, should one want to use hindi phonetic (IPA) variant, the indicator should display hin*. And in case of swiss-french layout, it should be fre*, rather than Che* The ISO language codes can be found here: http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/langcodes.html#gh -- no devanagari in keyboard indicator applet https://launchpad.net/bugs/32685 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
