Apart from completely disabling usb_modeswitch (Ralph's suggestion in
comment #12), it is also possible to disable usb_modeswitch for this
particular device, by commenting out this line:
# MediaTek MT6276M, MediaTek MT6276M
ATTR{idVendor}=="0e8d", ATTR{idProduct}=="0002", RUN+="usb_modeswitch '%b/%k'"
in the file /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules
Solves the problem in my case.
