Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Due to Bug #120943 (restricted-driver-manager breaks X for newer nVidia
cards when trying to install proprietary drivers), I have used a
modified version of Alberto Milone's Envy to install the latest 100
series driver for my video card.

Pertinent system info:
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5 i386
8800 GTX
nVidia driver version 100.14.11

In the appearance manager under Desktop Effects, when I try to select
Extra Effects, it complains to me that I must install the restricted
driver to enable extra desktop effects, and then fails to enable the
extra desktop effects. A nice fix would be the option to override the
appearance manager's judgment and enable extra effects anyway (since I
know better, apparently.)

Of course, a fix for Bug #120943 would make MY problem go away, but
still anyone who installed their own graphics driver (either manually or
with the help of something other than restricted driver manager) would
still be troubled by the behavior of the appearance manager.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
