I had a similar problem, with all libre office menus not being visible
when "show menus" was set for "in the windows title bar" on an upgrade
from Precise to Trusty.
Strangely, the behavior was correct on another machine which had a
completely fresh install of Trusty.
Comparison via synaptic pointed towards the Libreoffice Meta package,
which was installed on the upgraded machine, but not on the new install.
I removed this package via Synaptic, and found the window menu behavior
became correct on the upgraded version. Menus are now shown in the
windows title bar.
