Can you try this on the latest version of compiz from quinnstorm's repository? That is similar to the version in Edgy and should fix your problems.
Quick howto: 1.) Run this command: wget http://www.beerorkid.com/compiz/quinn.key.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add - 2.)
