Jonas: No, that's a misunderstanding of what Tony said. When an oFono API client requests "umts", our implementation actually calls the Android RIL API with parameter "PREF_NET_TYPE_GSM_WCDMA", which means "the preferred network type is WCDMA (UMTS), but fall back to GSM if not available".
