Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: partman-partitioning

When installing Ubuntu on a pre-partitioned hard drive, select "manual,"
and you are presented with a table of partitions. If you do not want to
make any changes to the partitions, you will be inclined to click on
"next," but if you do so, the installer complains that the root mount
point isn't set.

However, it is unclear how to set the root mount point -- it is not
obvious that "Edit Partition" is the button to use. In setting a mount
point, one is not "editing" anything but the fstab.

At the very least, the error message you get should indicate that you
must select a partition and then click on "Edit Partition" to set the
mount point. A better solution would be to add a "Set Mount Point"
button or some more self-explanatory item.
