I have the same problem with my Logitech MX-1000 Lasermouse.

I found out, that if the special keys don't work, the mouse is also recognized
as a keyboard in /proc/bus/input/devices
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=046d Product=c50e Version=2510
N: Name="Logitech USB RECEIVER"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.2-1/input0
S: Sysfs=/class/input/input2
H: Handlers=kbd mouse1 event2 ts1
B: EV=7
B: KEY=1f0000 100 38c0000000 c000000000000 0
B: REL=103

If it works the same part looks like this
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=046d Product=c50e Version=0111
N: Name="Logitech USB RECEIVER"
P: Phys=usb-0000:00:1d.2-1/input0
S: Sysfs=/class/input/input5
H: Handlers=mouse2 event5 ts2
B: EV=20007
B: KEY=ffff0000 0 0 0 0
B: REL=143
B: LED=ff00

Could this be a kernel problem instead of a problem in evdev?!?
