I will take what you are saying as being correct ("I've tried everything, I
have to do a manual install"). If you need support for manually installing the
binary drivers I would recommend looking at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual and either using the NVIDIA
forum (after carefully reading NVIDIA's README first posts) or using one of the
methods mentioned on http://www.ubuntu.com/support/communitysupport .
