We can only provide support for open source printer drivers included with
Ubuntu not for proprietary/closed source printer drivers (that support needs to
come from the creator of the driver: your printer manufacturer).
Gutenprint an open source printer driver included in Ubuntu has experimental
support for Canon MP 540 starting with version 5.2.10. This version is included
in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or higher, you can test without installing by using the
ubuntu-desktop live cd.
