I ran into this problem with /dev/sda1 starting at block 63 of 256MB, a Linux SWAP partition on /dev/sda2 and a Linux LVM partition at /dev/sda3 (total disk size 1TB). The partitioning scheme dates back from a couple of year ago and me hardly being aware of it (if I recall correctly still from the GRUB1 period). Deleting /dev/sda1 solved the problem for me. But then again, I can image that not everyone can simply delete this partition.
During the installation of 14.04.1 I was given the choice to Continue with the installation or to Cancel the installation. In the first case I was warned that I may have a system that cannot be booted... in the latter case I already had a system that was partially upgraded (mix from 12.04 LTS and 14.04 LTS). A check earlier in the upgrade process would really be appreciated, preventing me from spending a couple of hours getting my system up and running again (as opposed to a minimal down time). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1354005 Title: grub2 failes to install late in 14.04 upgrade process To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1354005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
