GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="noplymounth" and update-grub did not work. BTW, is there typo in post #11 ? I used "noplymouth" in my /etc/default/grub GRUB_TERMINAL=console did not work either. Otherwise boots normally (except for complaining on ACPI, but it is another story).
