I have some additional information on this issue since I own this computer and have the same problem:
Ubuntu 13.10 (x64) seems flawless on this machine. Not sure why, but something in 14.04 causes this to happen? It might be unrelated to this exact computer as it happens on a similar machine, the Acer Aspire V3 -111P-C9Z3. It also has the Pentium N3530 chip.
