sorry for chiming in here. I am on Mint 17 and experiencing these issues
with my GTX 850m
I have tried as much as I can from this thread,
and now am faced with "
ERROR: nvidia-settings could not find the registry key file. This file should
have been installed along with this driver at
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-key-documentation. The
application profiles will continue to work, but values cannot be
preopulated or validated, and will not be listed in the help text.

when trying to run nvidia-settings.
I am running linux mint 17, with geforce GTX 850m, and the latest package
available for prime is 0.6.2. can anyone shed some light on this issues
