Public bug reported:

kernel upgrade complains about non standard boot sequence. I does not
seem to be a major problem. (I might change my mind after a reboot.)

Grub2 is configured to write to the root partition, that seems to work.

Lilo is installed, but lilo.conf is deliberately hidden so that the upgrades
will not do anything to it or with it.
It seems to have created an empty file </etc/lilo.conf>. That is not
necessary, but not a major problem.
If the configuration file is not there, or empty, I do not want Lilo to be run.

There was a misleading error message, "Fatal: Can't put the boot sector on
logical partition 0x080B".
It is a GPT disk and there are no logical partitions, but "B" (eleventh) is
correct.
Something threw an error code of "2" but kept running, that is fair enough.

Then it popped up a bug report box, so I am filling this in, in case it
is useful for you.

Here is part of the output of "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade";
