Newer versions of Ubuntu, most notably 14.04 LTS, already contain the
latest upstream release as well as commits in git. Updating older Ubuntu
versions like 12.04 LTS with newer upstream versions is not possible in
most cases, as the way to ensuring stability is to only let in carefully
screened bugfixes, not entirely new feature releases. I could put a
backported package up on a debian.org website, but if your IT department
sticks with old LTS releases (and mind you, the upgrade path to the
current LTS was only opened four weeks ago!), are you sure they are
going to install a package from somewhere on the interwebs?
