For all those stuck with this issue. There's a real alternative to winbind, 
sssd. The following guide should get you started:

Using the "realm" command is especially easy.

Once a getent passwd [email protected] returns something useful, this 
can easily be integrated with samba, without using winbind. The smb.conf should 
then include
   security = ads
   realm = GE.LAN
   kerberos method = secrets and keytab
in its [global] section.
