As far as I know, the system settings panel has always been designed
with mono icons in mind which should reflect the state of the indicators
(i.e. the same icons are used), despite we have tested colourful icons
at some point (it didn't work).

The mono icon stuff has been approved during the sprint in Cape Town,
earlier this year.

Note that many indicator icons will be modified soon to use only one one
colour and  transparency except the battery indicator that will remain
partly green when charging and red when (nearly) empty.
