Presumably this issue has been circumvented one way or the other, but just in case and for others with the same problem, here's what I finally did after being unable to reinstall Ubuntu 14.04:
Because the same DVD used for the first successful install refused to process but instead endlessly cycled and recycled the DVD, I reinstalled version 12.04 successfully, then immedately upgraded to version 14.04. Although this approached provided what appeared to be a good installation, the mouse was frozen. By going through a lengthy series of restarts, I finally found that the Advanced Options menu at boot time had a 3.8.0-29 Generic option which sometimes enables the mouse and sometimes does not. When it does not, I restart and try again using the same boot selections, which thusfar have always worked either the first or second time. I'll now post the above and submit a bug for the random mouse failures. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315253 Title: Can't re-install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1315253/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
