Hi, Yes, there have been improvements to the via driver, that would make testing against a Feisty or Gutsy live cd worth the time.
There have been a NUMBER of screensaver related issues reported and fixed between 6.06 and current, so it would not surprise me at all if upgrading would result in a fix. Note that there is also a xserver-xorg-video-unichrome driver which also supports the VIA chipset. It has it's own set of issues, which is why we still ship -via as the default, however it conceivably could be a better solution for the user than either -via or -vesa. In Gutsy, we further have recently introduced the community-maintained xserver-xorg-video-openchrome driver, which is a fork of the unichrome driver that promises better support for modern graphics features than the other two drivers. I am hoping we can switch to -openchrome as our official default driver for VIA chipsets for Hardy. -- AntSpotlight and other screensaver freezes the system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
