I installed linux-
image-3.17.0-031700rc5-generic_3.17.0-031700rc5.201409151105_amd64.deb
several days ago. It failed on the first two boot attempts, but has
since had no problems over about a dozen boots. I hesitate to positively
declare that this is fixed in upstream kernels, but it looks very
promising.

NB. I have been unable to install the corresponding linux-headers due to
unresolved dependences that I have not been able to fix. But that's
another topic.
