  libatasmart4 won't read from devices with have SMART disabled (because 
sometimes SMART needs to be disabled as workaround, see for example 
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks2/+bug/1373318)

- libatasmart4 reenables SMART on devices that have SMART disabled. 
libatasmart4 should second guess the user on this...
