I just bisected the git repository of xfce/xfce4-settings and identified
the commit that introduced the issue as:

Building and using its immediate predecessor fixes the issue for me. Can
anybody confirm?

I am currently investigating the code, trying to find what's wrong.
However, I have little to no experience regarding the code base, so this
might take a while. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
