Another side effect other than "Direct rendering = No" is XINERAMA stopped
working, at least with the nvidia driver. ('xdpyinfo | grep XINERAMA' returned
nothing. Once I removed
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/00xserver-xgl_start-server things started working again.
