Have you tried to create new user and login with it in flashback session? Please try it.
You have changed panel background to color and/or image right? If you will be able to login in flashback session with new user without problems then you need to reset panels background to default. You can login in any working session. 1) You will need dconf editor: sudo apt-get install dconf-editor 2) Open editor then navigate to panels settings: org -> gnome -> gnome-panel -> layout -> toplevels 3) There will be listed all your panels. Under each panel there should be one more step -> background.
