Public bug reported:
When I boot the Gutsy Tribe 5 i386 desktop CD on an MSI RS482M4
motherboard, connecting the VGA output of the on-board graphics
adapter to an iiyama ProLite E380s 1024x768 LCD display, I can see the
initial menu offering to "Start or install Ubuntu" as the default
option. When I choose the default, a progress bar is displayed for
about one minute as the OS loads from the CD. Then the monitor
on-screen display shows the message
ATTENTION
NO SIGNAL
PLEASE CHECK INPUT SIGNAL
GO TO SLEEP!!
for a few seconds, the screen goes blank, and the monitor power LED
turns from blue to yellow indicating a power-saving mode. Power
cycling the monitor returns me to the ATTENTION, NO SIGNAL message.
lspci identifies the graphics chipset as:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon
Xpress 200]
If I select "Start Ubuntu in safe graphics mode" instead of the
default "Start or install Ubuntu", the machine boots successfully into
a desktop with the full 1024x768 resolution.
