I would note that the man-pages seem a little bit behind-the-times. On
Gutsy tribe-5 with

SSHFS version 1.7
FUSE library version: 2.7.0
fusermount version: 2.7.0
using FUSE kernel interface version 7.8

Both options are available.

Additionally, I've been using sshfs to mount a remote server since Edgy
and as far as I recall have always used -o follow_symlinks. The effect
is to have the remote links look like real directories to SFTP, the
underlying sshfs protocol.

I'll mark this report as invalid.
