Dear Brian, I do not remember that I installed gnuplot-nox and gnuplot-x11 from somewhere special. I need gnuplot from time to time, but I do not think that I added a ppa for it or installed respective packets by hand.
Meanwhile I resolved my problems by re-installing Ubuntu over my existing installation.
