Not sure how, but this appears to have been fixed last week by:
nvidia-graphics-drivers-331-updates (331.89-0ubuntu6) vivid;

* debian/templates/dkms_nvidia.conf.in,
debian/dkms_nvidia/patches/buildfix_kernel_3.18.patch:
- Add support for Linux 3.18.
