You can see here :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ooxml (search "openoffice") that this
release contains a filter able to open .docx documents (it seems that
.xlsx are not supported yet). Also you can open OpenOffice.org 2.3 and
go in File->Open and you'll see "Microsoft Word 2007" format in the drop
down list.

I'm uploading here a .docx file here so you can check it out yourself.
