I tested both Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10, and both worked the printscreen command by using the printscreen button. However, on the version 13.10, the key combination fn+del also calls the printscreen command. Using Ubuntu 14.04 only fn+del works. Hope this can help somewhat.
