Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntop

The ntop packages in both Gutsy and Feisty are not configured with the
right permissions in /var/lib/ntop. As a result, once install is
completed and it is run for the first time, it kicks back error messages
as it trys to create some new directories and update it's cache, then it
crashes. I believe the created directory at the moment is set up with
root as the owner, and it doesn't work this way.

I'm not sure what it's supposed to be set to as the application demands
your root pw, yet tries to run under the permissions of user 'nobody'.
The only way I got it to work in my system with my somewhat limited
knowledge was to recursively chown /var/lib/ntop with my username and
chmod 777 on all directories and files within- hardly a good idea, and I
wish it were set up the way it's supposed to be upon install so that I
didn't have to do it that way.

** Affects: ntop (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
