The file you sent does not look like /etc/default/xymon-client. The
file you sent looks very much like /etc/xymon/xymonclient.cfg.
If it was really /etc/default/xymon-client, then -- for some reason
not yet known to me -- it has been overwritten with the contents of
/etc/xymon/xymonclient.cfg. If that's the case, this line would have
caused the error message quoted above:

/etc/default/xymon-client should have looked like this:
---begin---
XYMONSERVERS="<server-ip>"
CLIENTHOSTNAME="<hostname>"
---end---
"include" statements don't work in there, because it's (also) sourced
by xymon-client's init.d scripts which have /bin/sh syntax only.
Do you use any configuration management or deployment system? Because
I currently have no idea how these two files could have been mixed up.
