I contacted Dell support about the issue, and in addition to being
requested to upgrade the BIOS, I was also pointed to this new driver
package:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=V9HNV

I have not yet tried is, as it might only work for 12.04 Dell branded
Ubuntu, but I see that it contains many .deb files that might work for
newer versions too, including Nvidia drivers and "screen-resolution-
extra[..].deb".

Does anyone running the original Dell supported Ubuntu version see this
issue? If so, does the driver package above solve the problem?
