We had intermittent boot failures with Radeon 4000 chipsets using the radeon driver. Setting nomodeset cleared the issue, but the box came up in the wrong resolution. Finally it seems to have been fixed by updating to the utopic kernel (at which point it boots without requiring nomodeset), so is this a known kernel bug, that I cannot find? And if so, any chance of backporting the fix to the Trusty kernel?
