You tried to install grub to /dev/sda, which has no partitions on it.
You need to create an EFI system partition somewhere ( on sdb, where you
installed the rest of the system would be fine ), or create a bios_grub
partition on /dev/sda, or on /dev/sdb, and make sure you set grub to
install there and your system to boot from there.
