I tried acpi=force irqpoll on my feisty 7.04(2.6.20-16-generic) and the
trackpoint still freezes up randomly.

to better describe my problem(not sure if other people will relate):

if I use the mouse immediately at startup, it seems to keep working so long as
I keep moving it.
then if I let it sit for a little while and do some typing or perhaps use my
alternate usb mouse without moving the trackpoint for a period of anywhere
between 10 seconds to a minute and THEN try to use the trackpoint it will not
register any on-screen cursor movement for a second or two, and then it will
start working like normal. That is, until I stop using for a period again and
then the delayed response is even longer(maybe 3 seconds).

In other words, there might be correlation between how long you leave
the mouse untouched and the delay of having it "wake up" the mouse(if it
ever wakes up...most often it doesn't). Also, there may be something
limiting the number of times the mouse can "wake up", which could give
it that sense of "it happens randomly".

to reiterate: I've *never* had the mouse freeze while I was using it.
only after leaving it alone for a little while. and maybe I can get it
back if i haven't waited too long but with a response delay.

Just like the other folks in this report, i never had a problem with
dapper.

also, the problem may or may not be linked to the USB versions of the
hardware. my regular USB mouse which is always plugged directly into the
computer is USB 1.1A, and I can't find any USB version specification for
the keyboard/touchpad/trackpoint combo keyboard I'm having trouble with,
but perhaps there is some incompatibility due to different USB versions
being used within it. (this is just a shot in the dark, who really
knows)

Do let me know if it's worth trying out the gutsy tribe 5 release
